Nations which had subscribed to the United Nations Declaration were originally
            invited to the San Francisco Conference to sign the Declaration.





































                                    The San Francisco Conference





          The first official meetings of the General Assembly, with 51 nations represented,
          and the Security Council took place in London on January 10, 1946.
          The Norwegian Foreign Minister, Trygve Lie, was elected as the first UN
          Secretary-General.




          Today, 193 countries are members of the

          United Nations and have accepted their
          obligations with respect to the UN Charter.

          The UN Charter is an international treaty

          that sets out basic principles of international

          relations.
